Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition
Jessup is the largest and most prestigious mooting competition in the world. UWA has a proud tradition including winning the international rounds in 2003 and runner-up in 2002 and 1995.
Applications for the next round close 4pm on Monday 1st September 2008 and should inlcude your academic record and CV together with a covering letter addressed to Att: David Leigh and lodged in the Law School office. Note:Successful applicants enrol in Jessup as a 12 point unit LAWS3346 taken over two semesters. Parts 1 and 2 must be completed to fulfill the requirements of the unit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
1. DO I NEED A BACKGROUND IN INTERNATIONAL LAW OR PUBLIC SPEAKING
No. A background in international law and public speaking is desirable but not essential. Teams consist of individuals from many different backgrounds. The Jessup program will assist to gain or enhance these skills.
2. DO I NEED TO BE AVAILABLE FOR THE ENTIRE SUMMER?
Yes. Jessup runs from late November until late January.
3. DO I NEED TO PAY FOR TRAVEL TO CANBERRA OR WASHINGTON DC?
No. All costs are covered by the University of Western Australia and sponsors. Please note you are still liable for tuition fees for the unit.
4. WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS?
Subject to the quantity of applications, the selection committee will prepare a shortlist for interviews. Five students will be selected from this shortlist. The selection panel consists of 3-4 former Jessup mooters.
5. I'M UNSURE FOR [X] REASON. SHOULD I STILL PUT IN AN APPLICATION?
Yes. If you are unsure, please do not 'self-select' yourself out of consideration.
6. I APPLIED LAST YEAR BUT I WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. SHOULD I APPLY AGAIN?
Yes. If you are keen, you are strongly encouraged to apply again. You may have been unsuccessful for all sorts of reasons which may now be inapplicable.
