Jaye Radisich BA LLB MLA

Summary of Life and Career:

Jaye was elected to the Parliament of Western Australia, as the member for Swan Hills, on 10 February 2001. Prior to this, she was full time at university studying final year law. In order to support herself through university, she also worked as a parliamentary research officer, administrative clerk and retail sales consultant.

At 28 years of age, Jaye is currently the youngest member of State Parliament, and is the youngest woman ever to be elected to the Western Australian Parliament (elected at 24). Jaye’s family were migrant pioneers of the Swan Valley region and contributed to what is now known as one of the tourist hot spots of Western Australia.

Highlights of Career:

During Jaye’s first term of office, she has been committed to delivering real outcomes for the local Swan Hills community; like securing an upgrade for the Upper Swan Primary School and gaining a commitment for the new Ellenbrook secondary school, stronger protection of the Hills environment, facilitating a doctor for Ellenbrook and successfully lobbying for the establishment of the new Outer Metropolitan Community Fund.

Prior to entering Parliament, Jaye was an active member of the Australian Labor Party for several years. She has served on the party’s State Executive and as a trustee on its central Administrative Committee. Jaye has previously held a number of positions within the National Union of Students and the University of Western Australia Guild of Undergraduates.

Kathleen Foley BA LLB LLM

Kathleen graduated from the Law School in 2003, writing her honours thesis on the subject 'The Australian Constitution's Influence on the Common Law'. Kathleen completed her final year of Law School while working full-time as the Professional Assistant to the Solicitor-General for Western Australia, Mr Robert Meadows QC.  This position took her to the High Court on many occasions, working principally in the field of Constitutional Law.

After graduating, Kathleen undertook an internship at the South Asia Human Rights Documentation Centre in Delhi, India, before commencing her articles of clerkship at the State Solicitor's Office of Western Australia.

In 2004, after her admission to the Supreme Court of Western Australia, Kathleen moved to Canberra to undertake an Associateship at the High Court of Austalia with Justice Kenneth Hayne. Upon completion of her Associateship, she moved to the United States where she undertook a Master of Laws at Harvard Law School.

Having graduated from Harvard and passed the New York bar exam in 2006, Kathleen is now employed as a Litigation Associate at the New York office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. Her litigation work includes both trial and appellate litigation. Kathleen remains passionate about constitutional law: her LLM paper on "Australian Judicial Review" has been accepted for publication in an American law journal for 2007.

Heather Hussey BA(Ed) BEd(Hons) LLB

Heather completed her Bachelor of Laws at the University of Western Australia in 2002. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Heather was a teacher, a lecturer at university and a supervisor of student teachers. She gained a Bachelor of Arts in Education with Distinction in 1990 and a Bachelor of Education with Honours in 1992. In 2000 she gained the Cambridge/RSA Certificate in Teaching English.

She worked with David Heldsinger from December 2002 to September 2005, in a small law firm focusing on employment law and industrial relations. While with David Heldsinger, Heather represented clients in the State and Federal Industrial Relations Commissions and the Industrial Magistrate’s Court. She negotiated on behalf of her clients in a variety of situations.

In September 2005, Heather changed directions and joined Andrew Maughan to practise in criminal defence. This dove-tailed nicely with Heather’s studies, as she is completing her Masters in Forensic Science at UWA. It also fulfilled a dream, as she had wanted to practise criminal law since she was a law student. Andrew Maughan has a busy combined personal injury and criminal defence practice.

Heather is a member of:

  • The Law Society of WA
  • The Criminal Lawyers Association of WA
  • Women Lawyers Western Australia Inc
  • The Industrial Relations Society of WA
  • The Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society
