OutcomesStudents are able to (1) identify the body of rules relating to the formation, terms and interpretation of contracts; (2) define terms used in contract law in relation to formation, terms and interpretation of contracts; (3) extract legal principles from judicial decisions; (4) clearly state the legal principles relevant to contract law and with reference to appropriate authorities; (5) appreciate the precedent value of judicial decisions; and (6) solve hypothetical legal problems relating to formation of contracts and the identification and construction of contractual terms.
 
ContentThis unit covers the principles relating to the formation and performance of contracts. These include offer and acceptance; consideration; intention to create legal relations; privity of contract; certainty and completeness; and terms of a contract.
 
AssessmentStudents are required to complete an assignment and final examination.

Supplementary assessment is available for those students who obtain a mark of 45 to 49 inclusive in this unit (see University General Rule 1.2.1.25).
