LAWS2209 Advanced Torts Law

OutcomesStudents are able to (1) demonstrate knowledge and understanding of selected topics in torts at an advanced level; (2) demonstrate an understanding of the context in which tort law operates; (3) engage in informed and articulate oral discussion of political, social and philosophical issues surrounding tort law; (4) conduct comprehensive and accurate research into torts issues using relevant source material; and (5) write opinions and critical essays demonstrating understanding of torts issues at an advanced level.
 
ContentThis unit explores some particular themes and policy issues in the law of negligence and other torts, building on the foundation established by the compulsory units LAWS1107 Torts I and LAWS1108 Torts II, and is not simply a study of additional torts.
 
AssessmentStudents are required to submit two research essays.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.
