OutcomesStudents are able to (1) identify and understand the objectives, requirements and processes of state and federal legislative schemes for protection of consumers in Australia; (2) apply relevant legal principles to hypothetical factual scenarios; (3) communicate a comprehension of consumer law by expressing ideas coherently and logically in a written and oral form; and (4) evaluate existing consumer protection law as to whether it responds adequately to consumer needs.
 
ContentThis unit is a study of the main aspects of consumer protection law, both state and federal, including product liability, unfair trade practices, consumer credit, consumer remedies and consumers' access to justice.
 
AssessmentStudents are required to complete a tutorial exercise (25 per cent), attend and participate in tutorials (5 per cent) and sit a final examination (70 per cent).

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.
